Spring into summer! So us yarnivores don’t hibernate when the warm weather arrives, oh no! We simply switch fibre 😊. Ditching wintery woolly yarns in favour of light and airy cottons, bamboo, viscose and lyocell means the craftiness can continue into that one week in May that we call ‘summer’ in the UK. Let’s face it, ‘high summer’ is usually a damp affair here as we splash our way through July and August and pray for an Indian Summer in September. But I’m getting ahead of myself, we have been blessed with a bit of great May sunshine, and so woolly blankets begone! I’m all about the summer crochet now.

So on my hook this month has been this absolute summer icon – the cricket vest. It’s a bit of a makey uppy pattern based on previous sleeveless tops I’ve made, with the addition of deep navy and cream borders for obvious cricketyness. I used herringbone stitch for this which I recently ‘discovered’, and love (thanks Bella Coco!). When you’ve been crocheting for years it’s too easy to stick to the tried and trusted dc, htr, tr combos. I love finding new stitches to play with.

I usually also have a ‘shop window’ make on the hook constantly and this month I finished a quick and easy cushion panel to compliment the Attic24 ‘Dune’ blanket I made years ago. The cushion is made in the ‘Yuletide’ blanket stitch pattern using my Dune yarn leftovers, all Stylecraft Special DK. My stash of blankets on the ladder in the shop always get a lot of love and are great interchangeable props for the shop window, even in the summer we all love a colourful squishy rug.

Now what shall I make next….something for me or something for the window…..
